4th of July Hot Dog Shoot-Out

Hot Dog grapgicsThe 4th Avenue Delicatessen wants to know who is the top dog in Tucson? The person who truly relishes a challenge and can eat the most hot dogs in 10 minutes?

The 4th Avenue Deli is pleased to announce our 4th of July Hot Dog Shoot-Out, a hot dog eating competition for a city that loves its wieners! The shoot-out will be held at Che’s Lounge from 6:30pm – 9:00pm on Independence Day, Friday, July 4, with qualifying rounds to be held at Mr. Heads, The Hut, and Surly Wench Pub – during the month of June.

All competitions are free for spectators and $20 entry fee to participate (entry fee includes hot dogs for the competition and t-shirt designed by local artist, Danny Martin).

The shoot-out and qualifying events will be hosted by Marques Emanuel with 5,6,7 Wax spinning retro dance party hits. All rounds will be officiated by Generation Cool’s Slobby Robby (a man who knows his hot dogs) and Devon Duhart, 4th Avenue Deli’s Customer of the Year 2014.

Each round will feature separate men’s and women’s competitions consisting of (up to) 10 participants for each competition and will last 10 minutes. The 1st and 2nd place winners of the qualifying rounds will advance to the final 4th of July Shoot-Out at Che’s Lounge.  In addition, one lone 3rd place contestant from the qualifying rounds who consumes the most hot dogs out of all the 3rd place winners will also advance to final competition as a wildcard.

Winner of the men’s and women’s competition will receive free hot dogs for one year at the 4th Avenue Deli  (Hot Dog with ketchup, mustard, relish and onion – limit one per visit) as well as a $50 gift certificate to the deli, and their picture forever immortalized above our hot dog menu as Avenue Deli’s Top Dog 2014.

You think you got what it takes? Come sign up in person at the 4th Avenue Deli, located at 425 N. 4th Ave. All you have to do is pay the $20 entry fee, give your choice of 1st, 2nd, 3rd qualifying round to join (first come, first serve – no refunds) and sign a participation waver.  Must be 21 or over to enter.

Qualifying hot dog eating rounds will be held at:

– Saturday, June 14 at Mr. Heads on 513 N 4th Ave. from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

Friday, June 20 at The Hut on 305 N 4th Ave from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

– Friday, June 27 at Surly Wench Pub on 424 N 4th Ave from 6:30pm

 

Official Rules:

Must be 21 or older to participate.

-All contestants must read and sign this waiver before entering.

-Up to 10 contestants per contest: Men’s and Women’s.

-If a contestant doesn’t show for the qualifying event, audience members can fill the seat(s) upon paying contest entry fee and signing contest waver at qualifying event.

-Contestants may not touch the hot dogs until the starting signal.

-Only entire hot dogs eaten will be counted (an entire hot dog includes the bun).

-Contestants will have 10 minutes to down all the hot dogs they can handle.

-Contestants will be provided water during contest.

-Buns and hot dogs may be separated, dunked or mangled.

-When the 10 minute time limit is up contestants may not put any additional hot dogs or buns in their mouths. They will then have 30 seconds to swallow what is in their mouths. Any contents left in contestant’s mouths at the end of the 30 seconds will not be counted.

-Partially eaten hot dogs will not be counted except in the case of a tie.

-Vomiting during or after the contest will result in disqualification.  Contestants have to keep the dogs down until the winner has been announced and contest concludes.

-1st and 2nd place contestants of each qualifying round will advance to the final event to be held at Che’s Lounge on July 4, 2014. In addition, two 3rd place winners who consume the most hot dogs at the event will move on as wildcards to the final round.  If for any reason a winning contestant will be unavailable to participate in the final event and gives 24 hours notice before the final event, he/she will be replaced by the closest runner-up from their qualifying round.  If a winning contestant is a no-show at the final event, their seat at the table will remain empty.

-No entry refunds for any reason whatsoever.

-ALL RULINGS BY JUDGES OF EVENT ARE FINAL.
